just a thought...

I was reading a HP fic tonight, and I couldn't help wondering: If the Potters knew they were being hunted by Voldemort because he wanted to kill Harry, then why the hell didn't they just stage a fake-death and spread the word that Lily miscarried, the baby was born dead, etc. Or if Dumbledore was really all about the greater good, he could like steal an orphan child, magic him up into a Harry-clone, then offer him up to Voldemort to kill. Easy.

That would be kind of a twisted story though, huh? The Harry Potter that took out Voldemort the first time and is the perceived savior of the Wizarding World isn't really Harry Potter at all. He's actually Joey Smith, orphan boy. But because he took out Voldemort, Dumbledore couldn't allow the real Harry and family to make a reappearance. So to cover things up, Lily, James and the real Harry had to be "gotten rid of."

One could say that Voldemort, though, being the OMG HYPER POWERFUL WIZARD that he is/was, would see through a trick like that, nein? O.o Just a thought.

Oh come on. The guy couldn't even find a HOUSE. An entire building just POOF, out of his mind. (Sorry, watching Kathy Griffin: Life on the D-List. v. funny.)

Anyways, you would think there would be some wonky kind of ancient magic out there to use. And Dumbledore? Super-powerful bearded man, can do lots of anything. Voldemort was totally scared of him for awhile there.

But I don't know, a bit of essence of Lily and James infused into the orphan child to make him appear Potter-ish. Or a badly Snape-ified polyjuice potion that had a bit of real-Harry's life force in it or something to turn the orphan into a perfect genetic copy of the real Harry.

*laugh* Your description of Voldemort made me LoL. XDDD

Honestly, it's all just a big plot hole on JKR's part. *shrug* It happens, even with really famous writers. Plot holes can really only lead to nice AU-ish "what if" fanfiction, really - it's not like noticing them is going to make anything change.

(Unless we, you know, stand around in a circle pointing and laughing at JKR until she commits suicide and the last HP book has to be written by oh, say, DAN BROWN. *amused*)

There are tons of things Dumbledore/James and Lily COULD have done, and there's really no reason why they didn't. ^^;; Save lack of foresight on the part of their creator.

(Or some great cosmic mystery that will be explained in the last installment of Harry Potter.)

The world is just damn lucky I'm not the Dark Lord, that's all I can say. Because me? Totally coming up with the bad ass ideas.

If I was Voldemort, Harry would just be a smear on the wall...

BTW, why doesn't anyone ever think of layering rebounding spells or something on someone. They totally knew Voldemort was going to go after baby Harry and family, and then the crazy guy has come after him every school year. So why are they so cheap with the traps and sneakiness? Are they afraid it's going to make them look like the bad guys if they go for the crazy guerilla tactics for once?

Harry + stalker Voldemort = long range rifle. Pow. No more Dark Lord. Then some happy Snarry sex. Now is that really so difficult?

Sure the Wizarding World is all about the magic and stuff, which is cool and all. But come on, Voldemort's guys? Totally old school purebloods. While the side of Light? Full of mudbloods that remember things like guns, grenades, bombs, anthrax... Give'm a copy of the Anarchists Notebook and there wouldn't be anymore Death Eaters. And I know it's in bad taste to bring this up, but Seamus Finnigan? Yeah. (And I've totally been watching Mind of Mencia, which is why it's so fresh.)

Guns in HP

Actually I've seen this addressed in three ways/fics (that I can remember):
1. A Hermi/Harry, where Hermi's Dad points out his fact and they end up taking out Voldie with a sniper rifle.
2. Someone (I think Harry mentioned it) and a another wizard (I think Ron) said that use of Muggle firearms was forbidden on pain of wand snappage and either lifetime imprisionment in Azkaban or Dementor's kiss.
3. Guns used but to deliver spell bullets.
