The Man From Nowhere is a great action movie, though it is quite violent. I've recommended it before, and I am recommending it again. If you like an engaging storyline with amazing fight sequences and a visceral need to cheer the hero on, then The Man From Nowhere might just be what you're looking for. It is Korean, so you have to read the subtitles, but it's worth it.
This is one of those movies that needs a dubbing and a wider availability to the public (remember all of those Jackie Chan movies? Why not?). The idea that some Hollywood drone might decide to take the story and reproduce it with a whitewashed cast and a watered down storyline terrifies me. It is absolutely perfect the way it is. Won Bin is excellent as the hero, and the girl that plays So-mi does a wonderful job.
For Won Bin in a different role, check him out in Autumn in My Heart, but keep the tissues handy. It's one of the greatest Korean love stories ever put to film, but it's also the most heart-wrenchingly sad. Anyone that doesn't cry, probably doesn't have a soul either. Watch it free at DramaFever. Blurb for The Man From Nowhere: Cha Tae Shik (Won Bin) leads a quiet, anti-social life by operating a small pawn shop. Every so often the outside world intrudes upon his life in the form of So Mi (Kim Sae Ron), the little girl next door whose mother is a heroin addict. When So Mi's mother steals drugs from a fearsome drug lord, she and her daughter are subsequently kidnapped. Using his powerful combat skills to his advantage, Tae Shik will do anything to save So Mi.
