Story:Georgia "George" Lass dies and finds out there's life, or unlife, after death as a Grim Reaper, one of the Undead. Extremely snarky and funny, though there are some serious moments when George's family is shown dealing with their loss. It's interesting to watch a family fall apart then pull itself back together. And George realizing she can never go home again is kind of heartbreaking.
Art Style: Clean, crisp imagery.
Slash Factor: 4 out of 5. Mason is just waiting to be used. Moments of Rube-ism, though I'm completely warped. Possibility of femslash because of all the female characters, though if you're going to write it, you have to do it right. Seriously.
Score: 5 out of 5
Watchability: 5 out of 5
Will I Buy It: Oh yeah. I'm already looking around for a cheap price and I've got big plans for pre-ordering season 2.

When George deals with Herbig, (Herbig brown eyes//Herbig fat ass) I just want to cringe because I've actually met people like that.

Still, Dead Like Me is one of my favorite series' and I already have plans to buy both collections.

I know it's old, but it's like a piece of my childhood made real.

Story: A twelve year old boy, David Scott Freeman, disappears for eight years and mysteriously returns in the same place he left, but his family have moved on without him. Then the spaceship, Max, shows up. David is kidnapped by NASA and has to escape. There's plenty of Beach Boys playing. Oh, and a creepily-cute alien creature.
Art Style: 80's-type Disney movie. Like D.A.R.Y.L, Herbie, etc. The movie is definitely dated, with old-fashioned special effects and the usual craptastic film that was used back in the day.
Slash Factor: The main character is a twelve year old boy, so... no. But there's potential for future-fics where David is all grown up and dealing with the weirdness, or the return of the drone ship.
Score: 3 out of 5
Watchability: 4 out of 5 for the nostalgia factor
Will I Buy It: Probably not. I enjoy seeing it every once and awhile on the Disney channel or one of the main networks, but I'm not spending money, 'cause I'm poor.

Movies like "Flight of the Navigator," "Explorers," "Weird Science," "Real Genius," and "D.A.R.Y.L" are pieces of my childhood I never really left behind. Along with "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure," they're kind of always percolating somewhere in the background of my mind in one form or another. Spaceships, aliens, snarky teenagers way too smart for their own good, and young guys doing dumb stuff.

Sometimes I totally feel like a twelve year old boy. Heh.

Maybe someone should start a LJ community of Nostalgia Fics. Old movies taken one step further, with favored characters fleshed out and given new adventures.

I have had "Kite" going on forever, but I have never felt the overwhelming need to watch it. And now I know why.

Story: opens with Sawa as an assassin, brutally killing her targets. Story unfolds to explain how she was orphaned, raped through most of her life, trained to be a merciless killer, and basically wrapped her whole life around her need to avenger her parents' murder. Sawa comes off in some scenes as almost mentally simple, while in others she has a feral kind of intelligence. I think the creators were trying to make her seem innocent, but I don't equate bald stupidity with intelligence, so... moon-eyed girls don't really give me a driving need to protect them. And her relationship with the male "protagonist" came off as fake, even for an anime.
Art Style: odd hair styles abound. Clear lined artwork, though Sawa has disproportionately large breasts (read: freakish).
Slash Factor: 1 out of 5.
Score: 2 out of 5
Watchability:1 out of 5. Gratuitous Violence!!! Definitely romanticised rape scene to appeal to the perverted boy-fans, though not as bad as in "Ninja Scrolls."
Will I Buy It: Already own it ::sigh::

If you've read the Bleach manga, some parts of the anime are pretty disappointing. The first few episodes leave something to be desired, but there's something oddly appealing about the artistic style used and there are signs that the series will *probably* get better, though I've only seen eps 1-10 so far. I've got more on my queue and it should only be a matter of time before I see if the series gets any better.

Story: Ichigo has phenomenal spiritual power and is tapped to be a shinigami (Death God). From the manga, it's obvious the characters are a little... odd, and that definitely carries over to the anime, though definitely not to a Fooley Cooley extreme.
Art Style: reminiscent of Saiyuki
Slash Factor: maybe a 1. Very Shonen-Jump, not Hane to Yume. Probably gets a higher slash rating for a possible f/f pairing.
Score: 3 out of 5
Watchability: 3 out of 5
Will I Buy It: Yes. I'm a fool for mental torture.

Currently watching "A Tale of Two Sisters" (Korean.) I'm about 33 minutes in, and it's actually kind of boring. Though if you were scared by "The Grudge" or "The Ring," I guess this one could freak you out. Lots of suspense, weird twisting bodies, and strangeness ala "Hide and Seek" (that Robert DeNiro, Dakota Channing movie.)

Anyways, Korean dialog, English subtitles.

Two sisters return home after an unspecified illness to live with with their father and "evil" stepmother. The oldest sister, Su-mi, is kind of sulky and hates her stepmother just for existing. Semi-weird stuff happens around the house and the father doesn't even notice.

I have my suspicions about Su-yeon, the younger sister, but if they turn out to be true, that would just ruin the movie for anyone else that wants to see it. But... I guess I'll find out.

(I'm really bad about ruining movies by guessing the endings before they're even half through. This time, at least, I'm not going to verbalize my movie-ruining ideas. I'll just kind of keep them to myself...)

EDIT: About an hour in and did I call it, or did I call it. I was totally right about this movie. Which probably means I've been watching too many "suspenseful horror" movies lately and should just stop.

EDIT2: Wow. That's all I can say... Wow. Tragic, sad, semi-freaky, and just plain good. Watch it. NOW

I love this movie. I now officially love Takeshi Kaneshiro and I really want to see "Lavender" where he plays an angel with a broken wing ::rowr!::

Making some 'caps for the movie. Man, he's so pretty...

The movie's kind of a mix of Matrix clothing, a vague Terminator feel, Independence Day aspects, and White Dragon (manga) shoot-em up with style-style. Still, I'm a complete sucker and I loved it, so hah.

Check out the 'caps when they're up, then rent the movie. I also have plans to buy it when I get the chance. Though I also liked "My Wife Is a Gangster" (Korean.)
